No Fee Unless We Win: How Contingency Fees Work

Most people who need a lawyer after a serious injury or the death of a family member cannot afford to pay one by the hour. A contingency fee arrangement solves that problem. At Kemper Law Office, you pay nothing unless I recover money for you.

What Is a Contingency Fee?

A contingency fee means my payment depends entirely on the outcome of your case. If I recover money for you, I receive a percentage of that recovery as my fee. If I do not recover anything, you owe me nothing for my time.

This arrangement lets anyone, regardless of their financial situation, hire an experienced attorney and pursue a serious claim without paying anything upfront.

How Does the Percentage Work?

The contingency fee percentage varies depending on the complexity of the case and the stage at which it resolves. I discuss the specific percentage with every client before we sign an agreement, and I explain exactly how it applies to your situation. There are no surprises.

What About Case Expenses?

Filing fees, expert witness costs, medical record fees, and other litigation expenses are separate from the attorney’s fee. I advance these costs on your behalf during the case. If we recover, those costs are reimbursed from the recovery. If we do not recover, I absorb them. You do not write a check to pursue your case.

Why Does This Matter for You?

It means your interests and mine are completely aligned. I only get paid if you get paid. I have every incentive to build the strongest possible case and to fight for the maximum recovery, not to settle quickly for a number that is convenient for me.

It also means that when I take your case, I genuinely believe in it. I do not accept cases I do not think I can win.

What Types of Cases Does Kemper Law Office Handle on Contingency?

I handle the following case types on a contingency fee basis:

Personal injury — including car accidents, truck accidents, and slip and fall injuries.

Wrongful death — cases arising from fatal accidents, nursing home neglect, and other preventable deaths.

Civil rights violations — including excessive force and malicious prosecution.

Dental malpractice — cases involving nerve damage, infection, or unexpected tooth loss.

What Happens at the End of the Case?

When I recover money for you, whether through settlement or verdict, I provide a clear written accounting that shows the total recovery, the attorney’s fee, any reimbursed expenses, and the net amount going to you. You see exactly how the numbers break down before you receive your check.
